(Newser Summary) (6/2/09) – The US has detained terror suspects on some 17 naval ships that have been used as secret “floating prisons” around the world since 2001, according to a study by the human rights organization Reprieve. At least 50 prisoners were held on a single ship and delivered to unknown locations, reports the Guardian.

“They choose ships to keep their misconduct from the prying eyes of the media and lawyers,” said a Reprieve representative. A Navy spokesman conceded that suspects have been held on ships “for a few days”—but he denied vessels are used as prisons.

I believe that the seeds of this problem are sewn so deep that this type of situation is very touchy. On one hand, for the people that were arrested based on either alleged evidence, or some sort of preemptive incarceration effort based on terrorism, these people should be let go. Nobody should be held based on faulty evidence, nor on what their plans or motives were.

For the people that have been captured that are responsible for some act of violence then a stint in jail is appropriate. However beyond that, a person or group like this needs to be ostracized and their reputation should be damaged based on their actions.

And you cannot forget why these “terrorist” suspects are behaving the way they are. The the United States governments and its allies have been meddling in the middle east for at least 5 decades. Imagine where we would be if some nation building country was on our soil meddling in our affairs.

Things of this nature need to be view unbiased in order to be able to take all of the information and form the best possible opinion. Instead most jump to some ideological opinion that they were likely told as opposed to figured out on their own.

What initially appeared to police as a strip club inside a Lawrenceville home was likely a party that became out of control, police said.
Gwinnett County Police Lawrenceville resident Constance Trahan has been charged with maintaining a disorderly home.
Gwinnett County Police Lester Ramirez, 20, was charged with possession of alcohol and marijuana and lying about his age.

“The officer put in the report that it appeared to him it was a strip club, but whether it was or not, we didn’t see that,” Gwinnett Police Spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said Wednesday.

Police responded to the home of 28-year-old Constance Trahan around 2:30 a.m. on July 18 after receiving a noise complaint.

Neighbor Jim Ferguson, who called the police to complain about the home in the 1400 block of Purcell Road, said he saw several teenagers roaming the area and that dozens of cars were parked on his street and around the block. Ferguson said the home had at least 200 party-goers that night and that the home often hosts rowdy gatherings.

In the incident report, the officer noted that a seemingly intoxicated party-goer, 20-year-old Lester Ramirez, said that there were “dancers in the garage and basement area.” However, such dancers or evidence of a strip club were never found or confirmed, Schiralli said. Rather, teens interviewed about the home later said it was a “safe” place for them to party, he said.

Police also said they found a sign that read “1 Dollar Jello Shots,” along with minors consuming alcohol.

Trahan has been charged with maintaining a disorderly house, a misdemeanor, and remains free on a $1,300 bond.

Ramirez, who told officers that Trahan sold alcohol at the party, was arrested and charged with providing police a false date of birth and for alcohol and marijuana possession after police found pot in his mouth, according to the report. He has since been released on a $3,900 bond.

Trahan’s friends say there is no club at the home .

“It was a regular gathering,” said Christyan Hall, who lives with Trahan. “It’s just a misunderstanding.”

The July 18 party was the latest in a series of noisy gatherings at Trahan’s home, neighbors said.

Ferguson said he also called police last month after being awakened to excessive noise and traffic in front of his home.

Never fails, police harassing peaceful people on their own property. Luckily the police probably had better things to do that evening, otherwise they may have determined that Constance was in fact running a strip club out of the house. And more power to her if she was, as that is her right assuming all involved were so voluntarily.

Jason and Pete from Motorhome Diaries have been detained at the Canadian border leaving Vermont on I-91. They have been there for the last 4 hours, MARV has been searched by both state agents and the K-9 patrol. The MHD Guys were filming as the neared the check point, but the video was deleted and they were informed if they continued to film, record, or take pictures they would be arrested.

A box of literature from the Alliance of the Libertarian Left was taken, and a copy of Crispin Sartwell’s “Against the State” was left out on the counter. The RV was ransacked but thankfully not to the point it was in Jones County, Mississippi. Their laptops are now in the possession of the state agents, and those agents are reading about fr33 Agents, The Free State Project, and Jason & Pete’s former employer. One agent has accused them of ’spreading misinformation.’

The guys have been told that the state agents are looking for “Pornography or Heinous Propaganda.” When asked for a definition of “Heinous Propaganda” or the applicable statute they were told it was available online, but they don’t have computers or Internet access.
